Back in August, our team member Quadraxis shared a feature written from research into the Galactic Federation’s past and present history. Today, we are thrilled to share part two of that feature, in which Quadraxis focuses on the “Shadow Federation”. This is his name for the secretive faction within the Federation that were responsible for the illegal bioweapon projects on the Bottle Ship and BSL research station, and possibly the E.M.M.I. too. We hope you’ll enjoy reading about the Federation splinter group.

MercurySteam confirms they’re developing a new RPG
MercurySteam has partnered with Digital Bros., the parent company of video game publisher 505 Games, to produce their next game. An original IP called Project Iron, it will be “a third-person action role-playing game set in a dark fantasy world.” Project Iron is to be released on multiple platforms and has a budget of €27 million, or about $30.7 million USD. The IP is co-owned by Digital Bros. and MercurySteam.
In a statement, Digital Bros. said: “We are thrilled to work with the team at MercurySteam, a proven studio that over the years has created numerous phenomenal IPs – including the recent hit release Metroid Dread in partnership with Nintendo. With MercurySteam’s creative vision and talent and 505 Games extensive experience, gamers can expect a high-quality, captivating and engaging videogame.”
MercurySteam brought us Metroid Dread last month, and Metroid: Samus Returns before that, and they were both fantastic entries in the Metroid series. With their passion, dedication and skill, I think Project Iron will be a great success. Best of luck to MercurySteam on their new game!

Our Community Spotlight of the month is now live! Today we feature the work of Dewey Newt, a musician who made quite a lot of Metroid remixes. Metroid Dread wins Nintendo Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards 2021
Metroid Dread has won Nintendo Game of the Year, as voted by members of the public! Nicolas Wegnez, General Manager at Nintendo UK accepted the award, praising the development teams at Nintendo and Mercury Steam. Wegnez went on to say that almost twenty years had passed between the previous 2D Metroid title Metroid Fusion, and this new game, making the point that many players had never played a 2D Metroid game before. He thanked both development teams who worked together to create Metroid Dread.
Congratulations to Nintendo and Mercury Steam!
Feature: Room By Room
Our newest feature is now live! One of my long term passion projects has been documenting the rooms of Metroid on Wikitroid. Every single alcove, chamber, corridor and grand hall has a story to tell, an untold number of secrets and a piece of importance in the life of Samus. Although this work is ongoing, I wanted to share my thoughts on Metroid’s rooms, and how fun and personally rewarding it has been to study and document every single one. Because the wiki’s coverage of rooms is incomplete, there has been a knowledge gap for a long time and myself and others are doing our best to help close that gap. Anyone who wishes to do so is welcome to help contribute to achieving full coverage of all Metroid rooms on Wikitroid.
Metroid Dread patch 1.0.3 released
Today, Metroid Dread received its third update. It will automatically be downloaded when your Switch is connected to the internet. The patch notes are below:
- Fixed an issue where Samus’ damage detection would disappear under certain conditions.
- We made the decision to fix this issue because there is a possibility that it may occur unintentionally, and if it does, it will result in a play experience that is far different from the way Metroid Dread was originally intended to be experienced.
