Space Pirates have attacked the Galactic Federation and stolen samples of a dangerous life form: Metroids! Deep below ground on planet Zebes, the Space Pirates are trying to weaponize the organism under the leadership of super AI Mother Brain. Samus Aran, a fearless bounty hunter, is sent to infiltrate the Space Pirate base on Zebes and eliminate the threat.
Samus is sent to SR388, the Metroids’ home planet, to eradicate them after several survey teams have gone missing. These creatures are too dangerous to be allowed to fall into the wrong hands again. Upon arrival, Samus discovers that the Metroids evolve into more and more dangerous forms.
The Metroid hatchling Samus brought back from SR388 is stolen by Ridley and brought to the rebuilt Space Pirate hideout on Zebes. Samus chases after him to take down the Space Pirates for good and discovers even more dangers deep below the surface.
Samus gets infected by a newly-discovered deadly parasite on a routine survey on SR388 and is saved by a vaccine produced from the last Metroid she retrieved on her first visit there. The new parasite, simply called “X,” breaks loose on a research station and Samus has to wipe it out before it reaches civilization.
Tracing a distress call to a Space Pirate research station above Tallon IV, Samus uncovers a nefarious plot to harvest the planet’s powerful Phazon resource to create Elite Pirates. She chases Meta Ridley, a cyborg version of her arch nemesis, to the planet’s surface to deal with the threat.
Samus is tasked with finding a missing squad of Federation troopers. She discovers the planet they have gone missing on has been split into two opposing versions of itself in the form of Dark Aether and Light Aether. One of Light Aether’s natives asks her to restore balance to the planet to prevent it from ultimate destruction, but soon, Samus also encounters a dark doppelganger of herself.
Relive the original METROID story in a new light. Samus’ first encounter with the Metroids, Space Pirates, and Mother Brain have been modernized and expanded with a new chapter set right after the end of the original.
