Back to Community Spotlight

In this month’s Community Spotlight, we feature the work of Dewey Newt, a musician who was part of the Harmony of a Hunter Returns project. He contributed with U’Mos’ Mainframe, a chiptune remix of Sanctuary Fortress from Metroid Prime 2. We hope you’ll consider checking out his social media pages and give him a follow to support his great work!

Dewey Newt

Hey there, Dewey Newt here! I am a musician who makes video game covers in a vast majority of genres. Orchestras to make you weep, sick lo-fi beats, EDM to move your feet, funk to move your seat, you name it! I am also a euphonium and trombone player, and incorporate those instruments into my arrangements on occasion!
I was introduced to the video game cover and arrangement world back around 2008-2009, when I was scouring YouTube and the internet for sheet music to play on my instruments. I learned about OverClocked Remix, and was amazed at all of the bombastic covers of the familiar bleep and bloop tunes I had memorized! I started tinkering with transcription, arranging, sound design, and other computer music software over the next few years. I finally made the plunge and started uploading arrangements onto the internet in the middle of 2016, and have been arranging ever since! Over the last two years, a lot of my arrangements have been focused on the Metroid series. Darren was even gracious enough to invite me to arrange a song for the recent Harmony of a Hunter Returns album!
Metroid has been an all-time favorite series of mine! I jumped into the series with Super Metroid way back in the SNES days when I was way too young to understand what was going on. The benefits of older brothers when you are just a youngling! I have kept up with the series ever since, having played virtually every game in the series (even solo Federation Force!)
I am deeply humbled to have an opportunity to share my passion for video game music and Metroid with others. I look forward to creating more interesting arrangements and covers of these tunes that have been engraved into my brain since childhood!

Our Thoughts

Darren

I had the pleasure of working with Dewey on Harmony of a Hunter Returns, and appreciated how easy it was to work with him. When I had suggestions or changes to request, he was happy to discuss them, and because he was always willing to open a dialogue, it made working with him an enjoyable experience. Dewey is incredibly talented and didn’t require any sort of guidance, he knew what he wanted to do, and knew when he had reached his limit. I respect him massively for it.
