New artwork revealed for Metroid: Samus Returns

Yesterday Nintendo Everything shared new artwork for Metroid: Samus Returns. They include a number of renders as well as concept artwork, of Samus, some of the Metroid evolutions (including the baby, which is really cute!) and the Arachnus. One of the Samus images is even a pose from Metroid Prime‘s renders. You can see the art and renders at Nintendo Everything, linked below.

Shinesparkers Relaunches

We are delighted to relaunch our Metroid fan community with a brand new look and a new and expanded team! Almost seven years ago, Shinesparkers was created to offer the latest Metroid news and exclusive content. With two brand new Metroid games announced at E32017, we decided it was the right time to update our website and expand on our vision.

One of our new goals are to create a multilingual website to reach out to French, German, Italian and Spanish-speaking fans in an attempt to expand our audience and provide people who may not understand English very well, to enjoy our content and feel part of a larger community that may not be represented in their native language. We will gradually be translating all of our existing content and creating new content for fans to enjoy in multiple languages, thanks to our dedicated team of translators who are supporting this endeavour.

Our new team consists of content writers, translators and people behind the scenes that keep the website working and the content flowing. Words cannot express how much we appreciate their hard work and effort, and thank them for all they have been doing to get the new Shinesparkers ready for launch. We dream of making our community even greater than it originally was, and hope you will join us on the next chapter in our journey!

North American Samus Returns teaser site now live

Nintendo of America recently added a teaser website for Metroid: Samus Returns.

While it currently only features a handful of screenshots and launch info, it does also confirm Kenji Yamamoto and Minako Hamano’s involvement in the soundtrack formally for the first time outside of commentary from the E3 reveal.

The site will expand to feature more content soon. For now you can sample the screenshots shown below.

Nintendo Australia and New Zealand Twitter account releases Samus Returns art

As if any more hype was needed for the impending release of Samus Returns, Nintendo has obliged by releasing several gorgeous pieces of artwork from the game.

Both images can be viewed in their entirety below.

It’s interesting how both images blend some of the new elements introduced into Samus Returns with the old. The first image depicts Samus using her new melee counter against a Zeta Metroid, while the second image features her unleashing a relentless barrage of shots from her new Aeion ability, Beam Burst, into an Alpha Metroid.

Hopefully we’ll be treated to even more images before the official release next month!

GameStop offers retro keychain with Metroid: Samus Returns purchase

If you plan on buying your copy of Metroid: Samus Returns from GameStop, it appears as if you’ll be getting a bit of a bonus, while supplies last, that is. Last week, GameStop released a tweet detailing a little added incentive for purchasing the next Metroid game from them: A retro keychain of how Samus appeared in the original Metroid II.

If you’re curious, the tweet from GameStop is featured below.

I’m not going to lie, it’s a rather attractive keychain, if I do say so myself. If you’d like to ensure you get one, you can pre-order it from GameStop online or in-store.

What are your thoughts on the keychain?

Metroid: Samus Returns amiibo functionality revealed

Earlier this month, reports on the amiibo functionality in Metroid: Samus Returns began to surface, but some of the details were left ambiguous and confusing to players, particularly with the Metroid amiibo. However, on July 25, one of Nintendo’s Facebook accounts began to drizzle new information regarding the usage of amiibo.

Below are the official descriptions that Nintendo has provided for each of the usable Samus Returns amiibo.

Samus Returns Samus amiibo:

In Metroid: Samus Returns, the new Samus Aran amiibo will unlock an Aeion reserve tank allowing you to recharge your Aeion energy. In addition, it will unlock a unique Metroid II Art Gallery once the game has been completed at least once.

Samus Returns Metroid amiibo:

In Metroid: Samus Returns, the Metroid amiibo unlocks Metroid Marker, a tool to help you find nearby Metroids. In addition, it will also unlock Fusion Mode, a new mode that offers increased difficulty and features Samus in her Fusion suit. Note that Fusion Mode will only be available after finishing the game at least once.

Smash Bros. Samus amiibo:

The Samus amiibo will unlock a reserve missile tank, and after completing the game, an additional in-game art gallery.

Smash Bros. Zero Suit Samus amiibo:

The Zero Suit Samus amiibo will unlock a reserve energy tank, and after completing the game, a selection of music.

What’s particularly noteworthy about each of the amiibo is that they unlock something immediately and after completing the game at least once.

What are your thoughts? Will you be using any of the amiibo to aid you with your playthroughs?
