All Metroid songs in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate appear to have been leaked

Ahead of the release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (2 weeks from today!), the full list of songs in the game appears to have been leaked. The list names 25 Metroid themes by their filenames, which would seem to include every theme featured in Smash up to this point, although the Parasite Queen theme from Metroid Prime appears to have been replaced with the new remix, which you can hear in Dark Samus’s showcase video. Additionally, it appears as though the remixes of Brinstar and Brinstar Depths from Melee, and the Planet Zebes theme from the first Smash Bros. on N64 are coming back as well. Songs from Brawl, Smash 4 and Ultimate are grouped into one section in the game’s internal files, while Melee and N64 Smash songs are grouped separately. If this leak is true, this will be the first time that the Planet Zebes theme has been heard in Smash in 19 years. You’ll be able to listen to the full lineup of Metroid music when Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is released on December 7th.

Feature: A Very Metroid Thanksgiving

Today on Thanksgiving, we have a new feature to share with our readers! While only three of our staff celebrate Thanksgiving where they are in the world (including yours truly), we still wanted to mark the occasion by sharing why we are thankful for Metroid! We also asked the Metroid community earlier this month to chime in on Twitter with why they were thankful for the series. Samus and her adventures mean a great deal to us, as we’re sure it does to all of you. Happy Thanksgiving, and enjoy lots of Dacho… I mean turkey!

New Palutena’s Guidance Secret features Ridley in Super Smash Bros Ultimate

Palutena’s Guidance returns in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and includes dialogue options for new characters to the series. GameXplain have uploaded a video to share Ridley’s. The feature was first made present in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, and is activated by battling on Palutena’s Temple stage as Pit, and selecting his down taunt.

The dialogue between Palutena and Pit that follows, discusses the origins of Ridley, with some humourous comments from Pit. It’s a great feature, and one I am personally glad to see return to the Smash Bros series. You can check out the video below to see it for yourself!

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will launch worldwide on the 7th December 2018!

Nintendo has an idea of when Metroid Prime 4 will be released

Nintendo of America COO and president Reggie Fils-Aimé recently spoke to Mashable, primarily about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (his main is Ridley). He mentioned Nintendo’s practice of planning high profile releases for big selling seasons, like the holiday season or the launch of the Nintendo Switch. When asked if they have any idea of when Metroid Prime 4 will be on store shelves, he said:

Internally, we have expectations about when [Metroid Prime 4] is going to be released. We haven’t announced it, but yeah, the game is well in development.

Unfortunately, he did not elaborate, saying that Nintendo likes to showcase its games in great depth when they’re at least six months to a year away from release to avoid teasing players endlessly.

Updates on the status of Metroid Prime 4’s development have been scarce ever since its announcement at E3 2017. However, knowing that Nintendo has an idea of when it will come out means that its production is going well. We’ll keep you posted whenever news about Prime 4 is revealed. While you wait for its full unveiling, don’t forget that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be released next month, and we’ll be able to play as Ridley and Dark Samus for the first time ever.

Metroid comes to Nintendo Switch Online on November 14

In the Nintendo Direct presentation on September 13, Nintendo Switch Online was finally detailed, and one of the NES games announced to come to the service was the original Metroid. Yesterday, Nintendo of America confirmed when we’ll get to play it: November 14, exactly one week from today.  The game appears to be a straight port, graphical glitches and all, without added co-op functionality. Those of you who are subscribed to Switch Online will now have another reason to enjoy it. And if you don’t want to subscribe, there are still plenty of other ways to enjoy the original game, including through Virtual Console, the NES Classic, and within Metroid Prime or Metroid: Zero Mission.

Samus Aran gets a makeover from a 3D artist

A 3D artist named Julien Desroy, who also worked at companies like Axis Animation and Gameloft has created a 3D alternate look model for Samus. As you will see, there are similarities and differences from the Varia Suit to her face. The suit has a more industrial less advanced look to it, perhaps something The Galactic Federation rather than the Chozo would create? Others point out that it looks more in style with Fortnite, do you agree/disagree? You can take a look at Julien’s work on Samus and many other things he made by clicking this link:

Ridley and Dark Samus victory theme confirmed in SSBU

In the long-awaited Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, Ridley and Dark Samus apparently share an alternate version of the item fanfare theme heard in the Metroid games, most likely deriving from the Metroid Prime version. It has a darker and more sinister tone to it which is a nifty little detail to add into the game. Small differences like this only promotes more personality into these characters and we are grateful that our beloved Metroid villains got some great treatment by the hardworking Mr Sakurai. You can listen to the victory theme below!

Brie Larson dressed up as Zero Suit Samus for Halloween

Halloween is one of the times when the Metroid community is at its most creative, from spooky drawings, to Metroid pumpkin carvings and Samus costumes. This year, Hollywood actress Brie Larson got in on the fun, dressing up as Zero Suit Samus for a party. Her costume is spot on, down to the blond hairstyle with Samus’s two loose locks of hair on both sides of her face. Brie shared photos of the costume on Instagram, in her story and on her profile. Her costume is perfectly timed, since Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, in which Zero Suit Samus is once again playable is nearly a month away from release, and its last Nintendo Direct aired a day after Halloween. You can see Brie’s images below.

Maybe she can play the role of Samus in a Metroid movie directed by Jordon Vogt-Roberts?

UPDATE: When asked about it on Twitter, Brie said she wanted to make a Metroid movie. Nintendo, are you listening?

Adam Malkovich, Metroid and Zebesian confirmed as Spirits in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

The final Nintendo Direct for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate unveiled the new Spirits adventure mode, where all characters except Kirby have been turned into trophies, or Spirits, and you have to rescue them. Additionally, non-playable fighters were turned into Spirits. In multiplayer battles, Spirit characters can be assigned to a fighter, and fight alongside them. There are Metroid Spirit characters, including a Zebesian, Metroid, and Adam Malkovich. None of those characters were shown in gameplay during the Direct, but appeared in brief glimpses. The game is only a month away from release, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated on any new Metroid content that is shared!

UPDATE: Our friends at Wikitroid have confirmed three more Metroid-related Spirits: the Ridley Robot from the end of Metroid: Zero Mission, a blue Mech from Metroid Prime: Federation Force, and Samus in her military uniform from Metroid: Other M. You can see Rosalina & Luma equipped with the latter in the Direct at around 12:35. The Ridley Robot and Mech Spirits are confirmed on smashbros.com.
