In the long-awaited Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, Ridley and Dark Samus apparently share an alternate version of the item fanfare theme heard in the Metroid games, most likely deriving from the Metroid Prime version. It has a darker and more sinister tone to it which is a nifty little detail to add into the game. Small differences like this only promotes more personality into these characters and we are grateful that our beloved Metroid villains got some great treatment by the hardworking Mr Sakurai. You can listen to the victory theme below!
Brie Larson dressed up as Zero Suit Samus for Halloween
Halloween is one of the times when the Metroid community is at its most creative, from spooky drawings, to Metroid pumpkin carvings and Samus costumes. This year, Hollywood actress Brie Larson got in on the fun, dressing up as Zero Suit Samus for a party. Her costume is spot on, down to the blond hairstyle with Samus’s two loose locks of hair on both sides of her face. Brie shared photos of the costume on Instagram, in her story and on her profile. Her costume is perfectly timed, since Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, in which Zero Suit Samus is once again playable is nearly a month away from release, and its last Nintendo Direct aired a day after Halloween. You can see Brie’s images below.
Maybe she can play the role of Samus in a Metroid movie directed by Jordon Vogt-Roberts?

UPDATE: When asked about it on Twitter, Brie said she wanted to make a Metroid movie. Nintendo, are you listening?

Adam Malkovich, Metroid and Zebesian confirmed as Spirits in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
The final Nintendo Direct for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate unveiled the new Spirits adventure mode, where all characters except Kirby have been turned into trophies, or Spirits, and you have to rescue them. Additionally, non-playable fighters were turned into Spirits. In multiplayer battles, Spirit characters can be assigned to a fighter, and fight alongside them. There are Metroid Spirit characters, including a Zebesian, Metroid, and Adam Malkovich. None of those characters were shown in gameplay during the Direct, but appeared in brief glimpses. The game is only a month away from release, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated on any new Metroid content that is shared!
UPDATE: Our friends at Wikitroid have confirmed three more Metroid-related Spirits: the Ridley Robot from the end of Metroid: Zero Mission, a blue Mech from Metroid Prime: Federation Force, and Samus in her military uniform from Metroid: Other M. You can see Rosalina & Luma equipped with the latter in the Direct at around 12:35. The Ridley Robot and Mech Spirits are confirmed on smashbros.com.

Feature: The Horror of Metroid
We have a rather spooky update for our readers today in the form of a brand new feature, written by our dedicated staff member RoyboyX! Roy has written a piece around the inclusion of horror in Metroid, and how it impacted him personally growing up. What better way to mark Halloween than with a feature discussing one of Metroid’s most intense elements?
Feature: Legacy of the Villains
We have published a brand new feature on Shinesparkers. New team member Quadraxis takes a look at the villains in the Metroid franchise and the impact they’ve had both on the series, and himself. Awesome Games Done Quick 2019 approved list features two Metroid games
Awesome Games Done Quick 2019 submissions have now gone live, with the current approved runs publicly available to view. While dates and times for each run haven’t been allocated, the list is already very strong with many respectable runners having already submitted their runs for the weeklong event from January 6th-13th 2019.
Two Metroid games have already been featured in the list. The runs are Metroid Fusion Any% Memory Corruption from CScottyW with a 55 minute estimate, and Super Metroid Reverse Boss Order by ShinyZeni with a 1 hour 20 minute estimate.
Both runs should be highly entertaining, as they are unconventional from the usual fare. Metroid Fusion in particular will be the first time memory corruption will be used for the game at a GDQ, having only recently been made possible outside of tool-assisted speed runs.
This likely won’t be the only showings for Metroid from the event, as submissions have only just gone live. It’s quite likely to expect a Prime game to be shown, as well as the possibility of shenanigans from TASBot. We will update you on any further runs that get approved, as well the final schedule announcement when everything has been arranged.

Meta Ridley costume render for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate finally revealed
Source Gaming just came forward with render images for a variety of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate alternate costumes which had been sitting on Nintendo press servers for some time now. After obtaining permission, they revealed multiple designs that we’ve known about before, and one entirely new costume (Yoshi’s Crafted World styled Yoshi), but hadn’t had the full renders released until now.
The Meta Ridley costume was featured in his reveal trailer from E3 but was absent from use in the demos we’ve seen so far, so it’s a delight to be able to see it in full at last.
