Minutes ago at the time of writing, Nintendo dropped an Overview Trailer for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. You can view it at the link below.
The trailer begins with a synopsis of the plot: Samus is sent to Viewros after an accident while defending the UTO Research Center from Sylux. She must then fight to survive and find a way home. We see her speaking with a Lamorn hologram, and viewing a schematic of what might be a city.
This trailer reveals that Viewros has five zones: Fury Green (the jungle), Volt Forge (the factory surrounded by lightning), Ice Belt (the frozen environment), Flare Pool (the lava-filled facility), and the desert that connects them all, Sol Valley, which you can ride Vi-O-La in. We see a few of the scans Samus can collect, with the narrator touting the use of the Scan Visor to find information and move forward.
Samus’s core abilities include her staples, such as the Power Beam, Missiles, jumping, the Morph Ball and lock-on Dashing. We see Samus receiving the Psychic Ability jewel, and her abilities, including the Control Beam, which can direct the trajectory of your shots, and the Psychic Glove, which is used to solve puzzles and traverse areas.
Next, the Sol Valley is showcased. Vi-O-La, the bike unveiled in the September Nintendo Direct, is used to traverse the valley, which serves as a hub area connecting the sectors on Viewros. It can be dismounted at any point in the desert and summoned at any time in an area where it’s available. It has combat capabilities, including counter attacks, an Akira Slide-like dash, and it can destroy green crystals for energy.
Significantly, you can meet some Galactic Federation troopers who were also sent to Viewros! You can respond to distress signals from them and sometimes fight alongside survivors, who will provide you with upgrades. Some of the soldier names include MacKenzie, Tokabi, Duke, Armstrong, and one soldier pilots a mechanized suit named VUE-995. The troopers are voice acted and you can see some of their faces. They have health bars in combat, as an incentive to keep them alive.
The final montage of footage includes Xelios, the boss unveiled in the recent Switch 2 ads, and a new armored worm-like boss, Phenoros. At the end, the release date is reiterated, and the Mouse and Gyro Controls and Quality and Performance Modes on Switch 2 are outlined. Next, the trailer explains that there are Switch 1 and Switch 2 Editions, with an upgrade pack, and it reveals what the amiibo unlock! Samus’s amiibo grants a temporary bonus Health Shield once per day, “and more”, Samus & Vi-O-La’s amiibo grants alternate skins for Vi-O-La “and more”, and Sylux’s amiibo grants earlier access to an in-game cinematic, “and more”. Awesome!
We also get a glimpse of Sylux holding his head as if he’s been hurt and a new Morph Ball Psychic Ability. What did you think of this trailer? Has it solidified your hype for Metroid Prime 4? Let us know on social media!
