Hoshizora Lone

Hiii, I’m Lone!! I’m a digital illustrator from New York. I draw fanart for a variety of things, and Metroid, being one of my favorite Nintendo series, is a huge one of them! :^)

About my history with Metroid… I’ve been into it for a long, long time. As a kid, my games of choice were things like Rhythm Heaven, Style Savvy, and Kingdom Hearts. Not very Metroid adjacent at all. I started to get into the series in my early teens, but before then, I only knew who Samus was from Smash Bros and that was it— you can basically say that about 40% of gamers who know her, though, haha.

Fusion was my favorite entry for the longest time, but Dread delivered on everything I wanted from a post-Fusion game (I practically broke the sound barrier screaming when the announcement trailer for it showed “METROID 5”, I was so shocked that they were finally making Dread!!!), so that’s been my favorite since its release. Fusion is close second, followed by Prime 3 in third.

My not-so-secret secret is that I’m quite bad at video games and I don’t really enjoy playing ones with really intricate mechanics/a high skill bar. They’re just not for me, I’m a visual novel fan and rhythm gamer at heart. Even when playing Metroid games back when I was 13 or so, I always used guides on my first playthroughs because I was so bad at playing them. For Samus Returns, it came out at a time when I couldn’t play it immediately, so by the time I could, I used a guide then, too. But when Dread came out, I powered through the whole thing myself. And it was incredibly hard, haha, but I managed to do it all in one extremely long play session (skipped college on release day, don’t do that)! It was so awesome. I’m excited to experience that again with Prime 4.

As a result of being bad at video games, my favorite thing about the Metroid series isn’t the gameplay or exploration, but instead the world building/lore and all the characters that are part of it. Without a doubt, Samus is one of my most favorite characters of all time, and I also love her adoptive Chozo family and other miscellaneous Metroid characters who only have a handful of lines and maybe a boss fight to their names (Gandrayda my beloved). It’s hard to try and describe my fanart in an analytical way, but I really like drawing these characters in random, everyday situations and conversations. Keeping things light in a series that is quite grave. That, and I also recently played through the Halo series, and Samus and Master Chief are such similar characters that I love to draw them as best friends— finally someone who can relate to the insane things Samus has been through!!

I hope to continue to draw Metroid & Samus fanart forever and ever, and I will be always grateful to anyone who sees me post my silly doodles and smashes that “like” button. The fact that there are people who like my artwork, no matter how big or small the number, never ceases to amaze me…!!!!

Thanks for having me!! :^) samus x gandrayda foreverrrrrr

Our Thoughts

One of many things I admire about Lone is that a lot of her Samus art is precious and cute, which feels fresh for a franchise that is otherwise cool, creepy, or serious.

On top of that, she likes to explore Samus as a character, imagining how the events of the games affect her physically and mentally, and as a result she has a lot of interesting concepts to share, like how the Metroid DNA affects Samus outside of her missions.

Lone is also quite funny, and she consistently blesses my social media timeline with her comics and shitposts! You can tell that Metroid means a lot to her, and it’s nice to see how her knowledge and familiarity of Metroid lets her create unique and inspiring artworks and comics.
