Metroid discovered in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze four years after its release

A rumored Metroid cameo in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze has finally been discovered, four years after the game was first released. It is found underwater in level 4-3, Amiss Abyss.

To see it, you’ll need more than one heart. Pass the first signpost in the underwater section, and the giant statue that lights up, and continue to the end of the trench. Turn around and go back towards the statue (you’ll take damage from anenome), and hang out near the signpost. The Metroid will then appear. Pretty cool! This works in both the Wii U and Nintendo Switch versions of the game.

It turns out that the cameo was created by Matt Manchester, an environment artist for Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, who was delighted to see it found:

<blockquote class=”twitter-tweet” data-lang=”en”><p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”>Congrats on finding my easter egg, Shane. I was hoping for as long as possible to find it, and even open to it never being found. But 4 years is a good run I think. <a href=”https://t.co/63ejVCNh80″>https://t.co/63ejVCNh80</a></p>&mdash; Matt Manchester (@oracrest) <a href=”https://twitter.com/oracrest/status/1025401019340148737?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”>August 3, 2018</a></blockquote>
