The Orpheon

Hello I’m Albert, more commonly known as Orpheon on the internet, and I am an editor and animator.

I have been making videos for my personal YouTube channel, The Orpheon, for about a year and a half now. My work covers every aspect involving the channel, from writing and voicing the scripts, to making the final edits and animations, but I do also collaborate with a group of friends who help me create some additional assets for the videos.

When I was young, I usually found myself playing games, watching movies and anime, and even creating my own stories that then became short videos with the help of my friends and family. From here stemmed my love for storytelling, which led me to pursue a career in film and animation that I have been working professionally as a freelancer for the past 3 years.

The many things that influenced me to follow this career such as Gundam or Kamen Riders, are usually the main sources that inspire my work, but nothing has impacted me quite as much as video games, specifically the Metroid series. I quickly became attracted to this franchise for its great way of subtle storytelling, compelling worlds, and mysterious protagonist that kept me coming back to replay the games for many years.

After many suggestions from my friends during our college days, I decided to open a YouTube channel to share my love of the Metroid franchise and help newcomers get invested into the series that I loved. I would come to make videos explaining the lore of the series, make guides to help beginners get the most enjoyment out of their game, and even poke fun at the many characters of the franchise with small animated segments that could amuse other fans.

My goal was to use this channel as a platform to improve my skills in editing and animation by giving me an easy subject to make videos for. I also wanted to use it as an opportunity to learn new software and techniques that would make me grow as a storyteller while at the same time doing the thing I loved the most, entertaining people.

Even though it’s something I do in my spare time, the amount of people who now enjoy the work I pour so many hours into has become my main drive to not only continue making more videos, but also find more ways to improve my skills and try out a multitude of ideas to avoid staying in my comfort zone.

Whenever I decide to make a video, I always keep my audience in mind to challenge myself into implementing some new technique that can enhance my way of storytelling, as well as making the videos more engaging or entertaining for them in the process.

If I could give a piece of advice to anyone who is thinking about venturing into the world of videos and animation, it would be to keep working on making videos and don’t be afraid of making mistakes. The beginning is always difficult and can feel like quite the grind, plus your work isn’t going to be exactly what you want from the beginning, but always remember that the best way to improve is by continuing to work on your craft, listening to your audience or any constructive criticism, and stepping outside of your comfort zone.

What I hope to do with my channel in the future is to continuously find more ways to express myself and continue enhancing my skills, but most importantly, I wish to be able to continue entertaining an audience by doing the things that I love.

Our Thoughts

Darren

I first noticed The Orpheon on Twitter and thoroughly enjoyed the balance of informative facts about the Metroid franchise with his entertaining characters, which are silly, lovable, and filled with references to other Metroid games. My favorite character is of course, Crocomire. I consider Albert to be a great artist and a passionate person who is knowledgeable on the topic of Metroid, someone who I feel is worth checking out. I wish him the very best of luck with The Orpheon and will be awaiting his future videos with eager anticipation!
