Sebastian Mårtensson
I am a video game composer and cover artist, so far most known for my contributions to the Harmony of a Hunter and Harmony of Heroes albums.
I was first contacted by Darren back in 2011 and he asked me to make a cover of a Metroid track for the then upcoming Harmony of a Hunter album. I had never done any video game covers before this, but didn’t hesitate to accept the invitation. Since then I’ve been a part of each “Harmony” album except the most recent “Harmony of a Champion”.
The “Harmony” albums were a great experience and I loved every second of working on them. Hearing the fans reactions to the songs I recorded has really given me a much needed confidence boost in myself as a composer.
I’ve been nominated together with some collegues for Best Audio in Swedish Game Awards a few years back when I co-composed a soundtrack for “Magnetic: Cage Closed” (Steam, XBOX One) with Philip Nordqvist (also known from Harmony of Heroes under artist names rEc and Spheral.
I’m currently widening my skills in video game development as an intern at GURU Games (Medusa’s Labyrinth, Magnetic: Cage Closed etc.) as well as composing music for video games (GURU Games’ current project being one of them). I am hoping to one day soon be working full time with making video games, a dream I’ve had since I was a small kid.
My ultimate dream would be to make level design or compose music for a Metroid-title. Now, that probably won’t happen. So a more realistic goal is to make a game for a Nintendo console at one point. Now wouldn’t that be great?
Our Thoughts
Sebastian is a dedicated musician, passionate and hard working. He played an integral role in our Harmony of a Hunter albums, working on several memorable tracks and inviting many other musicians to get involved in our projects. He worked hard to ensure a twenty-seven track expansion to Harmony of Heroes (Final Smash) was created within six weeks, a massive undertaking! I remember how stressful it had been for the team to put together an album in such a short period of time, and I thank him for convincing me that it was a good idea. One of my favourite pieces of music that Sebastian has created is Only Human, an original composition that pays tribute to the Metroid universe. It has been great watching him grow and seeing him compose video games and get nominated for awards. I am incredibly proud of how far Sebastian has come since we first met, and if you have never had the pleasure of listening to his work, I urge you to do so.
