To begin our Spotlights for 2021, we are featuring Chernabogue, a very talented musician who dabbles in multiple genres. In 2020, Chernabogue released an EP called The Partition of Fear, which was based on the music of Metroid Fusion and is one of his most significant productions to date. We hope you will check out his work!

I’m a lawyer by day and video game music arranger by night! Under the “Chernabogue” moniker, I like to explore different genres and bring originality to my arrangements. Whether it’s metal, orchestra, or electronic music, I don’t like to stay in one place and I always try to discover new musical possibilities.

My musical journey started at the end of the 2000’s when I discovered the world of video game music covers and participated in albums from OverClocked ReMix. Since then, I have continued to assist and even direct projects as part of several communities, most notably the Vampire Variations trilogy. I also became the main composer for Super Smash Flash 2 and started to grow my own content and arrangements on YouTube in mid-2017. I try to upload new music regularly and to arrange music, both familiar and new.

The Metroid series has been a favorite of mine ever since I heard “Kraid’s Lair”. It’s always a pleasure to come back to it. I still remember playing the Prime trilogy for hours with my best friend, and getting killed by him repetitively in the Hunters multiplayer mode. I even made the series the focus of one of my bigger musical projects, my 2020 EP “The Partition of Fear”.

I look forward to what the future has in store for me regarding music. As of 2020, this simple hobby has evolved into something a little more professional, even if it’s still a passion project for now. I’d love to compose the soundtrack of a Metroidvania game one day (or any game, to be honest). Maybe it’s just right around the corner!

Our Thoughts

I have been a big supporter of Chernabogue for over a decade, ever since he was a part of our original Harmony of a Hunter album. In that time, I have seen him grow as a musician and create some fantastic pieces of music. It has been a pleasure to see his journey, and can’t wait to see where it goes next. Keep up the fantastic work Chern, you’re a legend!
