Back in late March 2025, Nintendo released a news app called ‘Nintendo Today!’, and part of that app was a story recap of Metroid! We got 10 volumes of Metroid stories, containing the storyline of the mainline Metroid games. We have preserved those volumes, and you can read them here below!

For each page, there was also a rating containing four categories:
- Useful
- Funny
- Cool
- Cute
The way it works is that the page shows the ratio of what Nintendo Today! users picked, and each user can only pick one category.
Just for fun, I thought we could look at those ratings!
The most useful volume, was the very first one of Metroid Stories! In that one, 13% of users picked the useful category. Vol. 6 and 10 shared the lowest usefulness, having a 6% rating.
Most of the volumes had a funny rating of 3%, but three of them, being vol. 6, 8, and 9, received a vote from 2% of the Nintendo Today! community.
As for the coolness category, four volumes were tied with a rating of 89%! This category was consistently the strongest of Metroid Stories. The four volumes were 6, 8, 9, and 10. The least cool volumes were deemed to be vol. 1 and 4.
Lastly, the Metroid volumes rated by cuteness! This category is typically rated quite low, but vol. 4 is an outlier! Having almost 3x the average vote, it stands strong at 8%! Peculiar at first, though it could be attributed to the focus on the Metroid Hatchling, which definitely is a cutie! Volumes 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10 got a cuteness rating of 2%, however.
We sadly didn’t get volumes of the Prime games, nor any of the spin-offs. It seems like Nintendo only wanted to highlight the mainline Metroid games, but hopefully we get to see all of the Metroid games in one way or another!
