Shinesparkers Feature:

Shinesparkers Poll: Your favorite Metroid game (2025)

Back to Features List

For the fourth year running, Shinesparkers readers have voted for their favorite Metroid game, with 513 votes cast for 14 Metroid games, from the original Metroid all the way to Metroid Dread. Without further ado, here are the results!

Please note – At the time of gathering votes for the poll, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond had not released, so it was not included in our poll. The Metroid Prime Trilogy and Metroid Prime Remastered were not included as separate games since they are a port and remaster rather than new experiences.

14th – Metroid (Nintendo Famicom Disk System, 1986) – 1 vote (No change)

14th – Metroid Prime Pinball (Nintendo DS, 2005) – 1 vote (-4)

Metroid and Metroid Prime Pinball were jointly tied this year, receiving one vote each. Metroid’s result has not changed since 2023, while Metroid Prime Pinball lost four votes from the previous year, where it was tied with Metroid Prime: Federation Force at 5 votes.

12th – Metroid II: Return of Samus (Nintendo Game Boy, 1991) – 2 votes (-1)

Metroid II: Return of Samus and Metroid Prime Hunters were jointly tied the last three years in a row, but this year that tie was broken. Metroid II received two votes, one less than the previous year.

10th – Metroid Prime Hunters (Nintendo DS, 2006) – 5 votes (+2)

10th – Metroid Prime: Federation Force (Nintendo 3DS, 2016) – 5 votes (No change)

Metroid Prime Hunters and Metroid Prime: Federation Force were jointly tied at ten this year with five votes each. Hunters gained 2 additional votes from 2024, while Federation Force took exactly the same number of votes for the third year in a row. Federation Force is one of only three games in the poll that gained no additional votes from 2024.

9th – Metroid: Samus Returns (Nintendo 3DS, 2017) – 6 votes (No change)

With six votes, Metroid: Samus Returns is 9th in the poll, having gained no additional votes from its total last year.

8th – Metroid: Other M (Nintendo Wii, 2010) – 7 votes (+3)

Metroid: Other M gained three votes from the previous year, placing 8th in the poll.

7th – Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Nintendo Wii, 2007) – 18 votes (-3)

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption lost three votes in this year’s poll as compared to last year.

6th – Metroid Zero Mission (Nintendo Game Boy Advance, 2004) – 30 votes (-8)

Placing 6th once again is Metroid: Zero Mission! This year it received 30 votes, losing 8 from the previous poll in 2024. A new generation of gamers are now able to rediscover the fifth 2D Metroid title through Nintendo Switch Online, provided they subscribe to the Expansion Pack tier.

5th – Metroid Fusion (Nintendo Game Boy Advance, 2002) – 48 votes (-15)

Metroid Fusion has remained the fifth favorite game for the fourth year in a row. It lost 15 votes, although this can be attributed to the drop in votes for the 2025 poll (618 to 513). As with Zero Mission, a new generation of gamers has access to Fusion via Nintendo Switch Online, as long as their subscription includes the Expansion Pack tier.

4th – Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (Nintendo GameCube, 2004) – 85 votes (-20)

This year, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes fell to number four and lost 20 votes. This is still a decent showing for the second Prime game.

3rd – Metroid Dread (Nintendo Switch, 2021) – 88 votes (-46)

In a major upset, Metroid Dread, the winner of the poll the last three years in a row, has fallen to number three! It received 88 votes, a decrease from its total of 134 last year. Dread, which will celebrate the fourth anniversary of its release in October 2025, has continued to be popular with Metroid fans.

2nd – Super Metroid (Super Nintendo, 1994) – 103 votes (+3)

This year, Super Metroid placed second with 103 votes, an increase of 3 from the previous year. Super Metroid remains one of the most acclaimed and beloved Metroid titles. Its influence is felt in every Metroid game that has followed, and in many other games since.

1st – Metroid Prime (Nintendo GameCube, 2002) – 114 votes (-16)

Metroid Prime has risen victorious in the 2025 poll with 114 votes, a decrease of 16 from its total in 2024, when it was only 4 votes away from overtaking Metroid Dread. Perhaps a new generation of gamers, having been able to play Metroid Prime Remastered, has pushed it over the top.

Once again, a huge thanks to everyone who voted in this year’s poll. As we always say: If your favorite Metroid game didn’t win, or if it didn’t receive the amount of votes you thought it might, please don’t be disheartened. This poll isn’t the final say on what is and isn’t the greatest Metroid title, and every single game made is a miracle, and each one should be celebrated.
