For the third year running, Shinesparkers readers have voted for their favorite Metroid game, with 388 votes cast for 14 Metroid games, from the original Metroid all the way to Metroid Dread. This is down from 798 votes last year. Without further ado, here are the results!
Please note: At the time of gathering votes for the poll, Metroid Prime 4 had not released, so it was not included in our poll. The Metroid Prime Trilogy and Metroid Prime Remastered were not included as separate games in this year’s vote.
14th – Metroid Prime Pinball (Nintendo DS, 2005) – 0 votes (-3)
Metroid Prime Pinball is once again our lowest scoring game at 14th, three votes down from the previous year. It seems this spin-off has once again failed to make an impression.
12th – Metroid (Nintendo Famicom Disk System, 1986) – 1 vote (No change)
12th – Metroid: Other M (Nintendo Wii, 2010) – 1 vote (-3)
Metroid and Metroid: Other M are tied with one vote each, placing a joint 12th. Other M has lost three votes from the 2022 vote, while Metroid’s number has not increased or decreased since the previous year.
Joint 10th – Metroid II: Return of Samus (Nintendo Game Boy, 1991) – 3 votes (-3)
Joint 10th – Metroid Prime Hunters (Nintendo DS, 2006) – 3 votes (-3)
For the second year in a row, Metroid II: Return of Samus and Metroid Prime Hunters are jointly tied at number 10 in our favorite Metroid game poll for 2023 with three votes, down three compared to last year.
9th – Metroid: Samus Returns (Nintendo 3DS, 2017) – 4 votes (No change)
With four votes, Metroid: Samus Returns is 9th in the poll. This is the same amount of votes it received last year.
8th – Metroid Prime: Federation Force (Nintendo 3DS, 2016) – 5 votes (+1)
Well this is unexpected! Metroid Prime: Federation Force comes in at 8th in the poll, up one vote this time around. It’s the only game in the poll that gained votes from the previous year.
7th – Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Nintendo Wii, 2007) – 12 votes (-8)
With twenty votes, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is 7th in the poll, up three votes this time around. Were you one of the people who voted for it?
6th – Metroid Zero Mission (Nintendo Game Boy Advance, 2004) – 23 votes (-39)
Placing 6th is, once again, Metroid Zero Mission! This year it received 23 votes, dropping 39 additional votes from the 2022 poll.
5th – Metroid Fusion (Nintendo Game Boy Advance, 2002) – 41 votes (-52)
Metroid Fusion has remained the fifth favorite game for the second year in a row. It lost 52 votes, although this can be attributed to the lower overall count than a drop in support for this game.
3rd – Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (Nintendo GameCube, 2004) – 63 votes (-55)
3rd – Super Metroid (Super Nintendo, 1994) – 63 votes (-99)
This year, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Super Metroid tied in joint third place with 63 votes, each dropping a significant amount from the previous year. Still, it shows that they continue to be among the most popular installments in the Metroid franchise.
2nd – Metroid Prime (Nintendo GameCube, 2002) – 70 votes (-67)
Metroid Prime places second, with 70 votes, losing a total of 67 compared to 2022. The re-release of Prime as Metroid Prime Remastered earlier this year likely gave it an edge.
1st – Metroid Dread (Nintendo Switch, 2021) – 99 votes (-79)
For the second year running, our top spot this year goes to Metroid Dread, the newest title in the Metroid series! It received 99 votes, a drop from its total of 178 last year, although with a still respectable lead over its predecessors. Support for Dread has continued to be strong since it was finally released in October nearly two years ago.
Once again, a huge thanks to everyone who voted in this year’s poll. As we always say: If your favorite Metroid game didn’t win, or if it didn’t receive the amount of votes you thought it might, please don’t be disheartened. This poll isn’t the final say on what is and isn’t the greatest Metroid title, and every single game made is a miracle, and each one should be celebrated.
