Shinesparkers Feature:

#Operation Metroid Prime 4

Back to Features List

Days 50-26

With 50 days left, we asked: “What do you think the Alien Artifact’s original purpose was?” Many of you predicted, correctly, that it was used for traveling through time and space. It turned out to be a replica of Viewros’ Master Teleporter, capable of taking the Lamorn to and from Viewros. 12 Lamorn had left the planet in search of the Chosen One that would save their world, and each had a smaller teleporter; this being one of them. (T/B)

With 49 days left, we asked: “Which Metroid game is your favorite?” Many of you chose Metroid Dread, Super Metroid or Metroid Prime, which consistently rank among the greatest in the series. An increasing number of you are choosing Metroid Prime 2 as your favorite, however. (T/B)

With 48 days left, we asked: “Which of the Vi-O-La bike’s abilities are you most excited to use?” Some of you hoped that Vi-O-La could be upgraded throughout the game, and this proved correct: it has an IC upgrade that turns it into a hovercraft so you can drive over lava, and it can get more boosts with Vi-O-La Boost Tanks found in Sol Valley. (T/B)

With 47 days left, we asked: “How did you feel when you watched the 2019 development update?” Naturally, the majority of you were disappointed (as were we), yet many of you also felt that it was the correct decision, to ensure we would get the best quality game possible, showing an unprecedented level of transparency. Some of you started high school when it was first announced, and by the time we got it you had graduated from university! It’s crazy to think about. (T/B)

With 46 days left, we asked: “How would you like to see the Morph Ball’s abilities taken further in the game?” Some of you simply wanted the Spider and Boost Ball power-ups to return, or even the Spider Boost from Metroid: Samus Returns to appear. More unique ideas were spikes to make the ball an armored projectile, a cloaking function, a suction bomb or the ability to burrow into the ground. In the end, the new abilities of the Morph Ball in Metroid Prime 4 were in the Psychic Boost Ball, which could make use of Psychic Boost Rails to traverse long stretches, the Psychic Bombs and Power Bombs, which could be used as Psychic Motes as puzzles and in combat, and the Psychic Spider Ball, which the Morph Ball could use to latch onto nodes that would slingshot Samus. (T/B)

With 45 days left, we asked: “Do you think we might get unlockable alternate suits like the Fusion Suit in Metroid Prime?” Most of you didn’t believe so (correctly), while others speculated that any skins would be paid DLC. A lot of you wanted to see the Dread Suits as skins; alas, that didn’t happen. Vi-O-La did get a selection of skins, although as stated they were locked behind the Samus & Vi-O-La amiibo. (T/B)

With 44 days left, we asked: “When/how did you first get into Metroid?” Some of you discovered it through Samus’s appearance in Smash, while those who started with the series itself most often began their journeys with Super Metroid, Metroid Prime 1 or 3, or the original Metroid. (T/B)

With 43 days left, we asked: “What’s your favorite reaction you’ve seen to a Metroid Prime 4 trailer?” Most of you said your own. (T/B)

With 42 days left, we asked: “Who is your favorite final boss from the Metroid series?” The most popular choice was Raven Beak, followed by Metroid Prime, Mother Brain, Proteus Ridley. A few of you said Experiment No. Z-57, even though that’s not a final boss. (T/B)

With 41 days left, we asked: “Do you want Phazon to make an appearance in some form?” The majority of you did not want to see it again, and indeed, it didn’t return in Metroid Prime 4, nor was it mentioned. Tanabe himself said in his famous 2015 Eurogamer interview that the story arc of Phazon and Dark Samus had concluded with Metroid Prime 3. We still wanted to ask! (T/B)

With 40 days left, we asked: “Do you think we’ll have something like the Chozo Memories/Archives in Metroid Prime 4?” Meaning, additional unlockable content that offered additional backstory for the game, as these frescoes did for Metroid: Samus Returns and Dread. Most of you doubted this was a possibility. Ultimately, we did get something like that in the form of the Concept Gallery, as well as the secret cutscene showing Sylux’s villain origin story. (T/B)

With 39 days left, we asked: “How many times did you watch the 2024 announcement trailer?” Unsurprisingly, your answers were either “Yes”, “I lost count” or some variant of the two. (T/B)

With 38 days left, we asked: “With Psychic Abilities and even a bike on the table, what other out-of-nowhere feature would you like for Metroid Prime 4?” Some of your ideas included fully voiced Logbook entries or a portion where you play as Sylux. Sadly, neither of those ideas came to fruition. (T/B)

With 37 days left, we asked: “Who or what do you think Sylux really is?” Some theories that have circulated over the years include that he’s Samus’s brother Solomon, a character only mentioned in the non-canon Blood of the Chozo story, or Ian Malkovich, Adam’s brother who died in an incident seen in a flashback in Metroid: Other M. Other theories believed Sylux was a faulty clone of Samus, an alien creature, a Lamorn, or held a vendetta against the Galactic Federation for personal reasons.

Ultimately, none of these theories proved correct. Sylux was in actuality a Gal Fed captain who led his troops in a battle against the Space Pirates. He attempted to take their superweapon for himself, at the cost of their lives, and then Samus destroyed the weapon. Although it was his fault, Sylux’s pride and rage twisted his mind against the Federation and Samus, and he defected, stealing their technology and amassing more power so that he could one day take revenge. While some of you have criticized his backstory as underwhelming, what’s clear is that it only scratches the surface of Sylux’s story. (T/B)

With 36 days left, we asked: “Are you getting any of the new amiibo?” Many of you were, and most of you were excited for Sylux’s amiibo in particular. Those of you who had all prior Metroid amiibo wanted to complete your collection. Us too! (T/B)

With 35 days left, we asked: “Are you enjoying #Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective?” Most of you said yes, while some didn’t have your copies right away, and sadly, a few of you lamented that you weren’t able to afford a copy at that point. Hopefully you will get one of your own, if you haven’t by now. (T/B)

With 34 days left, we asked: “Music, lore, gameplay, Sylux’s story… which aspect(s) of the game are you most excited about?” The most common answer was Sylux’s backstory. After almost 20 years of buildup since Metroid Prime Hunters, that’s understandable. It was the second biggest mystery in the Metroid franchise after what became of Samus post-Metroid Fusion (which was revealed in Dread). Other followers were most excited to experience the story, music and biomes. (T/B)

With 33 days left, we asked: “Who is your favorite boss from the overall Metroid series?” Your most common answers were Quadraxis and Raven Beak, who are often among the most popular bosses of the entire franchise. Honorable mentions included Emperor Ing, Meta Ridley and Rundas. (T/B)

With 32 days left, we asked: “Forest, desert and ice are confirmed biomes in Metroid Prime 4. Is there another you’d like to see?” Some of you wanted underwater or mechanized areas. The latter category got their wish, with Volt Forge serving as a cyberpunk motorcycle factory. Alas, there was no water-filled area in Metroid Prime 4, likely due to the Gravity Suit not making a return appearance. (T/B)

With 31 days left, we asked: “What quality of life improvements from the original Metroid Prime series would you like to see in Prime 4?” Some of your answers included Map markers for rooms with items (which it did, by activating Scout Bots), the option to change field of vision, the Spring Ball (which returned), checkpoints (which it had) and item/Logbook percentages, which were present in the Inventory. (T/B)

With 30 days left, we asked: “Is this… Kanden?” with a screenshot of an insectoid creature seen in the Survive trailer that resembled Kanden’s Stinglarva Alt-Form. The theory was plausible enough that Nintendo Life picked up on our tweet. Alas, this was not Kanden and none of the other Bounty Hunters from Hunters returned in Metroid Prime 4. The creature in question is instead an Isopod. (T/B)

With 29 days left, we asked: “Will you be gifting Metroid Prime 4 to any family members or friends this holiday season?” One of you said your wife was getting it for you, one was getting it for their son, and more of you got it for your brothers, nephews, or yourselves. (T/B)

With 28 days left, we asked: “Will Metroid Prime 4 be your first Prime game?” For the majority of our followers, it was not. Some of you played through the original trilogy or one or two of the games, while others played all three and the spinoffs (Hunters, Pinball and Federation Force). (T/B)

With 27 days left, we asked: “Did you have a Metroid Prime Hunters main?” Your most common answers were Trace, Samus and Sylux.

Now, in publishing this tweet, we made an unforced error. All of the gifs used in these tweets were sourced from Tenor through Twitter and Bluesky. Some of them didn’t appear on both sites, which is why they were different in a few tweets. The gif attached to this one included all Bounty Hunters except for Noxus, with Noxus replaced by Kurara Oosuzuki from The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy. Some of you noticed this and wondered if we were pulling something. Nope! We left it up since it was funny. (T/B)

With 26 days left, we asked: “Are you hoping for a Special Edition Switch for Metroid Prime 4?” In response, most of you said it would likely have been announced by that point if it were happening, and determined that it wouldn’t be. Sadly, this was correct. (T/B)
