Second book complete!
When I started Metroid EX, I was helped by Iwamoto-sensei of Rockman X fame. He really helped by drawing a lot of nice-looking bad guys I couldn’t put into words.
All done till Story 4!
I can’t make time for this on weekdays, so the only time I can really do this is on Saturday and Sundays, hence the slowness. Story 4 touches on Diesel’s upbringing so I quite liked this one. I hope this can turn into something meaningful one day…
The 6th chapter is complete! I’m finally halfway…
The reason I do this job is to make another spare. Other than the manuscript, I only have one clipping from one BomBom magazine. (Although we may get a sample before binding.) One of the other purposes is to reconfirm the text.
Usually, the editor and the author agree on the text to be written in the manuscript. However, sometimes lines are changed by the editor without the author’s permission in order to adjust tempo or font size. If this is discussed in advance, there is no problem. But if there is not enough time, the book may be published without the author’s confirmation.
The changes often improve the tempo and expression, but there are still things that are not what the artist was aiming for. I am checking the changes to make sure that the dialogue is better.
Yes, it is for the time when EX will be reprinted, which may come someday.

Irregular update 9 to get people excited for the 35th anniversary of Metroid.
When I started working on the manga I had a hard time drawing Samus. It’s not what Da Vinci would do, but I start off with the skeleton and flesh things out until I add the armor and the finishing touches, but it doesn’t go well. It’s just not possible to fit a humanoid Samus within the power suit.
I prepared a diagram.
Using the power suit from Super Metroid, if you put a humanoid Samus Aran inside it looks like this. It’s clear that it’s not possible.
We often see Samus taking off her armor, but I personally don’t believe that she just wears it and has it become her battle form. Officially, Samus’s battle suit was supposed to have been created by super bio-technology based on Samus’s own DNA. In other words, I believe that, by conforming herself to her armor in battle…
Samus is morphing herself. So I was drawing in the manner of a block structure, like when drawing a robot. However, only the head is drawn with the image of wearing a helmet. This is because I thought it would be more natural to be able to display images and necessary data inside the helmet to aid in combat.
But the truth is, I felt sorry for Samus going into that horrific place alone in the game, and I thought she wouldn’t be able to do fight without at least an auxiliary device.
I like the mismatch of that powerful style with only the head being so beautiful.
So, even in the last episode of my Metroid EX, Samus breaks out her battle form and returns to her normal form, but that is not the scene where she takes off her armor. She only takes off her helmet and holds it under her arm.
I spouted a theory about Samus without her armour. Of course, there are those who say “No! That’s not true!” I am glad to see that everyone has a different favorite Samus. I hope everyone enjoys their own Samus, and Metroid. Let’s enjoy Metroid and its 35th anniversary!

Samus has a sexy mole on her chin, doesn’t she? When did that become in official? When I drew S&J, the mole wasn’t official just yet, was it? Or maybe I’m wrong…
Anyway, I drew the strongest lady in the galaxy for the first time in a while.
The new trailer for Metroid Dread just dropped. I understood what Mr. Sakamoto said that he waited patiently until it reached a high standard. It’s a great piece of work. I know the Metroiders are very excited and say, “I can’t wait! ”

I hope Metroid Dread sells lots of copies. Hoping that the number of Metroider’s in Japan increases so we don’t lose to those overseas.
This time next week, the whole world will be excited and thrilled. I can’t buy a Switch, so I’ll be watching your videos and tweeting to get excited.

I’m paying attention to people’s reactions to Dread. It’s great that even if you get caught by an E.M.M.I you have a chance to escape. The counter mechanic is exhilarating!
If you can use it well…. but I don’t have the confidence that I can.
There are all different editions of Metroid Dread such as the download and special editions.
I wonder which one is recommended…
Oh, but I’m still not at the point where I can buy it.

The Dread poster is so cool. I especially like the organic design where you can see the veins and muscle fibers.
I wanted to briefly try and add a bit of colour to the image of Samus giving head pats. But before I knew it I’d coloured the whole whole thing. ∩^ω^∩
If you want to be patted by Samus from Samus & Joy, imagine yourself instead of Joy in your head.
I like the style of Cowboy hats and shawls.
This year I have been actively mumbled about Samus & Joy and EX. Many people saw my tweets, and gave me the courage to take bold action. After all, nothing starts without action. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you for everything.
I will do my best next year!
I drew my first ema in a while (an ema is a small wooden plaque that people write their wishes on and leave at shrines)。
