Shinesparkers Feature:

4 Questions for Metroid Prime 4

Back to Features List

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond’s long-awaited release is coming on December 4th! Ahead of its launch, we asked our community to provide their answers to four questions regarding Beyond. We wanted to know if you thought Beyond should have amiibo support, which classic boss you’d like to see return, if you want to see the Federation Force again, and your thoughts on the new Vi-O-La bike.

The first three were asked before the September 12 Nintendo Direct, which revealed that Beyond would in fact support amiibo, including three new amiibo of Samus, Vi-O-La, and Sylux. The final question came after the Direct unveiled the Vi-O-La bike, and replaced another question we’d intended to ask. Many of you had great theories and takes to share when answering our questions, and we chose some of our favorites!

Do you want Metroid Prime 4 to have amiibo support?

Yes, if that means they’ll finally restock the baby Metroid

Considering the beautiful (and few!) amiibo that Metroid has, I’d love if Metroid Prime 4 had amiibo support! I’d hate if they were used to gate content. Bonuses only, please!

Yes because it would be nice to add to the Metroid Amiibo collection.

It would be cool, but only if they don’t really impact gameplay. Maybe have them unlock extras like concept art packs?

Absolutely not. And this is from someone who has all of the figures. I think the challenge of the prime games would be harshly eliminated with weapon/health refills as an option and locking “fusion” mode or its equivalent behind amiibo is really stupid. Not to mention it’s not possible to get a full collection for cheap (outside of getting nfc cards) if one would want to experience the game with all features.

Having Sylux amiibo would be beyond great, and there is potential for some extra bonus callbacks with the other eight Metroid amiibos which have been released – such as extra galleries to unlock. However, It seems to me that Nintendo has not been releasing many amiibos lately, I’m wondering whether they’ve decided to either [stop] producing them all together, in which case the potential for Beyond amiibos would drop significantly.

Sure, don’t see why not, I don’t know enough about the game though to tell what they’d do outside of replenishing missiles, giving extra energy tanks and unlocking artwork like the Samus Returns ones. An extra suit would be nice but then I hate how exclusive Fusion Mode was in that game, because that Amiibo ain’t cheap or easy to come by anymore. Then again, between Metroid Prime and Samus Returns it’s not uncommon, so I wouldn’t mind seeing an Echoes Light Suit version of whatever it is we’ve seen Samus clad in in Beyond

Support, no. A new amiibo that I’ll gladly buy to collect dust on my shelf, yes.

If you could choose a classic boss to return, which one?

If I could, I would choose a boss from Metroid Fusion – for instance Serris, Yakuza, B.O.X. or Omega Metroid; they would be great 3D boss fights.

What about Serris? It would be difficult to make it work in first person… But since in Prime 4 Samus gets some “mind” powers, maybe she can slow time in order to be able to hit Serris.

Draygoon is the only main boss from SM that didn’t get a second chance. It would be interesting to see it in 3D graphics, his fight mecanics could be all reworked anew. He could be found in an haunted water level, and he could emmerge from a pile of his past rotting meals

Do you want to see the Federation Force in Metroid Prime 4?

this would be very ambitious, but I would love a multiplayer side mode dedicated to what the federation force is up too while samus goes through the events of prime 4. I’ve grown to love the concept of this game and I’d love to see it with prime’s art style

Yes, please. 🙂

For a more serious answer, an acknowledgement is all I really want. And we kind of already have it with the newer mechs.

If the game (Prime 4) will mostly be on a single planet, then it makes not much sense for them to appear. But they could be appearing at the beginning of the game and maybe on two other occasions. A little bit like Prime 3 would be ok, but most of the time a lonely planet is the best for a Metroid game.

Federation Force was an awesome idea with boring gameplay and an art style that doesn’t fit with Metroid.

They deserve another chance.

The mechs shown in some of the Prime 4 previews look awesome! Love to see more of that.

I would love to see the federation force returning! Feels like the mechs in the trailer are very similar, and is such an underrated game as well. While it didnt stick to the normal Metroid formula, it’s 100% one of the best 3ds games both graphically and it’s rare use of gyro!

You mean like the specific character we played as?
Cause we did see a Golem very clearly in the opening and personally I like to believe that the soldier you see running up to it is the protagonist you played as in FF.
Unless it’s proven otherwise, that’s my personal headcanon.

Yes, and it seems like we might as we’ve already seen one of the mechs in the opening cutscene and possibly another tangled up on the actual planet.

How do you feel about the new Vi-O-La bike?

The traveling has to be engaging, otherwise it will be an absolute slog.

Spirit Tracks had an incredible overworld theme that made me wanting to take the long route to my destination. And over time, it introduced localized warp points, but did not take away from the traveling. It still maintained a balance.

MP4 HAS to do this.

At first it really came out of left field. But after thinking about it more and how it might be applied, it would make sense as a method for moving between different biomes (instead of cutscenes) without breaking up gameplay and mixing things up a bit. It presents some fun opportunities!

Basically as long as it’s fun and it’s not used *too* hard, it might be a great idea. It’s difficult to judge the whole idea right now since they didn’t show very much. But in principle I’m on board with it at the moment.

Also Samus Akira slide is canon!

[Our own Amanda also noted that Samus does an Akira slide with the bike, in our bonus episode of the podcast!]

I understand the hesitancy from a lot of people. I just say this: let Retro Studios cook.

Yes, it’s different. But Prime had a lot of complaints when it was first announced. Going from 2D-3D was a gamble, but we all know how spectacularly that turned out.

I was worried at first, but now I like it and im curious to see samus ride other futuristic vehicules. It seems to be an evolution of MP3 space travel system so it can feel less disconnected than the last one. Every metroid has its new weird mechanics.

It’s certainly the last thing I would’ve expected to see in a Metroid title, but it makes for a good substitute to the gunship since Sammy’s in the past. Her being a biker chick also just feels natural lol

Seems like a cool way to navigate a planet instead of just flying over everything with the gunship. I want this to feel like a large interconnected world and not just a few disparate planets, so having a new mode of ground transportation is nice. Especially if it’s not an elevator or train or something like that.

I love that Retro Studios is trying something BEYOND what they’ve done with the previous entries. I think if done well Vi-O-La will be an amazing addition to the series.

After 18 years, I didn’t just want 100% more of the same.
